2022 Aussie Family & Sports Car Market Review - Ford Falcon/Fairmont/XR6 AU-FG
Almost 25 years have elapsed since Australia saw its first AU Falcon and still the sour taste remains. AUs, seriously, aren’t that bad but well-kept Fairmont versions cost 50 percent less than a BA in similar condition.
BFs aren’t all that different either but cost twice the price of an AU. Where the contradiction occurs is in the market for XR6s, where AU versions in a good-sized sample were slightly more expensive than BAs and BFs were cheaper than all of them.
Is it the AU’s distinctive ‘bug-eyed’ look that makes them interesting? Who knows, but we are anxious to see where various versions head next year. FGs aren’t old enough to get involved as yet in the argument and with plenty around, a decline is likely.
