2022 Aussie Family & Sports Car Market Review - Ford Falcon/Fairmont XR-XT
The moment Ford revealed that its XR Falcon would have a V8 engine option, attitudes towards the model began to change. No matter what engine they had,
XRs came to be regarded as a performance car and that perception remains valid today. XRs in six-cylinder form realise double the price of an XP with the same motor, but then the physically similar XT is significantly cheaper.
XR and XT 500s built originally with a V8 now typically exceed $50,000 but six-cylinder Fairmonts, although scarce are cheaper and $40-45,000 is probably fair. The money being sought for XR Fairmonts with V8 engines is confronting and cars need to be truly exceptional to justify $100,000.
One confirmed sale saw a tidy XR V8 reach $65,000 at auction.
XR Falcon $43,790 (6)
XT Falcon $24,365 (10)
XR/XT Falcon V8 $62,815 (6)
XR/XT Fairmont $45,500 (2)
