American vacation special
It might be bordering on the cliche, but it’s inevitable when you see an American wagon of this size and era, comparisons are drawn to the iconic National Lampoon movie, Vacation, starring the Griswold family and a car similar to what you see here.
The car in that flick was referred to as ‘the family truckster’ and a faithful replica sold a couple of years ago for an impressive $127,000.
While the Ford you see here follows a similar visual theme, they were in fact a very practical car back when they were new. Big, solid, reliable and comfortable with a generous load capactiy.
By 1975 the Country Squire series of wagons was in its seventh generation and a couple of the earlier ones featured genuine ‘woody’ versions.
Several engines were packaged with this series, all of them V8s, and this example looks like it may be running the 390.
It looks fairly weathered and the owner seems to have a substantial amount of the history recorded.
Located in NSW, it’s on the market for $27,000.
