The best of Mac's Bridge 2016: William Sheehan's Ford Capri SE Club Sprint
Ford Capri SE Club Sprint
It might not as yet be considered ‘exotic’ but William Sheehan’s Aussie-built Ford Capri has to be one of the least common cars on show at Mac’s Bridge.
Painted Polynesian Green, William’s SE Clubsprint Turbo is one of just 43 such cars built as the Capri’s abbreviated model-run was drawing to a close. Its owner found the car in early 2015, making it the 9th Capri in an unbroken string dating back 19 years.
“My first was a single overhead cam automatic that had been sold new in 1989,” William said. “I just kept buying them and improved them as I went.”
“I try to buy them when they’re a bit downgraded and spend some time and dollars getting them back into good condition”
William’s fleet of open-top Aussie Fords includes a rare left-hand drive Mercury version of the Capri. It was a pre-production car sent by Ford to be scrapped but saved from the jaws of the crusher just in time.
