Ferrari and Lancia were the hero brands for yesterday’s Mossgreen sale in Melbourne.
A busy auction room saw the 1971 Dino 246 GT Berlinetta meet or exceed expectations with a sales price of $546,250 including buyer premium.
Another Ferrari, a 1976 308 GT4, achieved a solid $110,400.
Lancias did well. An exceptional 1938 Astura Cabriolet scored $218,500, while a very attractive 1963 Flaminia Gran Turismo 2.8 fetched $192,625.
More affordable and definitely one for the performance and/or rally nuts was the 1991 Lancia Delta HF Integrale, which hit $73,600 – good buying for the right person.
A 1934 Lagonda M45 Rapide drophead scored $218,500.
English cars had a mixed night, with a Jaguar XK120, plus a 140, struggling to reach reserve. However a 1977 Aston Martin Series III coupe attracted a very respectable $146,625.
If there were an award for the best buy of the night, there were two contenders: a 1968 Jensen CV8 MkI at $44,275, or a 1966 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow two-door at $47,150.
Two one–off Australian race cars headlined the sale: the Lou Molina Monza and the Chamberlain 8. The latter was passed in, however the Molina car did well, reaching $241,500.
