Big, big numbers for the Ferrari and a bargain for the TVR buyer.
1971 Ferrari Dino 246 GT
An Aussie auction record was realised for this sweet 246GT, the late 2016 Mossgreen auction also racking up the highest dollar value of any classic car auction in the southern hemisphere this year. By some margin the biggest sale of the day, the Dino enjoyed a full bare-metal respray, mechanical rebuild and interior retrim in 2007. Beautifully presented, it’s about as close as you’re likely to get to that showroom-fresh feel.
Sold $546,250 incl premium
1974 TVR 3000M
Bargain of the day at Mossgreen? It might just have been this pert little TVR 3000M. ‘Trevors’ don’t get a lot of play in the pages of Unique Cars, but it’s hard not to like this one, powered by a doughty Ford Essex V6. Owned for 41 years by ex-TVR importer Vic Kaye, it was modified at Vic’s request to feature an opening tailgate. TVR then put this design into series production, badging the car the Taimar.
Sold $26,450 incl premium
