Ferrari birthday celebrations at Motorclassica

Motorclassica gets bigger every year and none more so than 2017

Now in its eighth year Motorclassica opens its doors at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building from Friday 13 October to Sunday 15 October.

Ferrari will take centre stage to celebrate the marques 70^th birthday, which is officially sanctioned by the Ferrari factory in Maranello.

A Concours d’Elegance and a display of 70 Ferraris will mark this special anniversary in the Club Sandwich on Saturday October 14^th.

Celebrating local car making will be the feature of 100 years since the first Holden-bodied car was made in Australia, decades before General Motors started making Holden branded cars here.

While the Holden factory is set to close its doors just a few days after Motorclassica, the very first Australian-built Holden 48/215 (FX) prototype from 1948 will be shown, together with the EFIJY and Hurricane, and all eight generations of Holden Commodores.

And a special treat for showgoers will be the first public viewing of the fully-imported 2018 Commodore.

The Australian International Concours D’Elegance, the daily Club Sandwich car club displays, and the Saturday evening Classic Car Auction being run by Mossgreen for the first time features over 30 collector cars.

Speedway fans will enjoy the display of speedway midgets from the 1930s to 1960s in recognition of Australia’s status as the first country outside the USA to race speedway.

That other famous Italian brand Lancia, now 110 years old, will also be prominent with a number of iconic Lancia rally cars in original livery, accompanied by very rare models including one of just two 1947 Lancia Aprila Spyder Gransport Ghia that exist in the world, a limited 1957 Lancia Appia GT Zagato and a Lancia Flaminia Supersport Zagato.  

It all kicks off with the Tour Motorclassica which starts at the Alexandra Gardens on the banks of the Yarra River and wind through the heart of Melbourne before arriving at the Royal Exhibition buildings.
