Old Girls On The Road - Club Profiles
Funny things can happen when a bunch of women get together to celebrate the 50th birthday of a Mk II Cortina.
Just ask Tracey Walker of Moorooka in Queensland. The happy gathering to honour Blanche's half century (yep, Tracey's Cortina is called Blanche), became the catalyst fo the formation of the Old Girls on the Road Club. The club currently has 65 members and a database of 100 classic-car owning women in South-East Queensland.
Tracey talks about the club: "The way I see it the club provides a platform for like-minded women, obviously with a common interest in classic cars. Far from being about gender politics, it's a very social club, we enjoy getting together. Loving our cars, we look forward to a time when a woman stepping out of her classic will field comments or questions about 'your car', rather than 'your husband's car."
Club activities are not a bloke-free zone - men are welcome to accompany partners on its 'Girly Runs' and 31 per cent of the club's Facebook followers are fellas.
Members cars range from muscle cars to a Morris Minor.
Tracey and the team have produced an Old Girls on the Road calender and a series of videos for YouTube telling the stories of members and their cars.
