Where to go for Adelaide's BMW owners

From Unique Cars #388, May 2016

While there’s nothing vaguely Teutonic about his name, Michael McMichael knows more about BMWs than a Kombi-load of lederhosen-clad lads answering to ‘Fritz’, ‘Hans’, ‘Helmut’ or ‘Axel’. He’s been operating Michael McMichael Motors (MMM) as an independent BMW specialist in Adelaide for almost 40 years, servicing, repairing and finessing BMWs old and new. And when he’s not bringing customer BMWs up to scratch he’s out there somewhere enjoying one of the family’s Beemers. And he doesn’t mind a bit of serious action behind the wheel – readers may remember him impressively campaigning the brutish ex-Alan Grice 635 CSi in the 80s. These days he keeps his hand in with charity car events like this year's Shitbox Rally and is out there somewhere between Mackay and Hobart, raising money for cancer research.

Located in smart premises in inner-suburban Stepney, the MMM business carries out servicing in accordance with BMW’s official servicing schedules and performs mechanical repairs on all BMW models. It specialises in full BMW diagnostic services and sorting out fuel injection and electrical component issues. A courtesy car is available for customers, as is a towing service, if required.Prospective used BMW buyers can take advantage of MMM’s pre-purchase inspection service where an expert team member runs a trained eye over the vehicle to give an honest, expert opinion of its condition.

The skills of MMM’s technicians, whose CVs are heavy with BMW dealership experience, are kept spot on through Michael’s long involvement with BIMRS, a US-based association of BMW service professionals. BIMRS provides regular specialist training for technicians to keep them abreast of evolutionary technological change and new technical developments for BMWs. As well it provides specialist inside knowledge to deal with diagnosis of those oddball, tricky issues that arise from time to time.

Michael’s winning approach to business is based on acknowledging that MMM’s greatest asset is its customers and treating them accordingly.

"We realise that nobody owes us their patronage," he said. "We understand that every time an owner brings their BMW in and entrusts it to us, it is important to them that they be treated as though their business is appreciated and that their concerns are taken seriously."

Summing up, Michael said: "We value the amiable and trusting relationships we have developed with our clientele over the years."
