2019 Shelby Super Snake review - Toybox
Mustang Motorsport's latest 700-800hp reptile proves the muscle car is far from dead
2019 Shelby Super Snake
If you’re someone who decries automotive modernity, and believes that the muscle car magic of decades past is long dead – we’re here to tell you it’s not!
The rate of technology and sheer speed has moved the goal posts massively from even the turn of the millennium: which is why with modern steering and handling, it takes almost 800hp to deliver those white-knuckled muscle car thrills.
That’s where Mustang Motorsport’s latest flagship halo offering steps in.

It’s the 2019 Shelby Super Snake widebody, and it’s the fastest snake in all of Shelby’s history.
Similar to the 700hp Roush "Jackhammer" we featured with John Bowe last year, you don’t buy these from your local Ford dealership, but if you have a factory fresh 5.0lt Mustang; take it to Mustang Motorsports for a drive-in/drive-out conversion.
The Shelby Super Snake package begins at AU$94,000, on top of the Mustang you’ve brought from home. It comes with a 700hp Shelby Ford Racing supercharger system, Brembo 6 piston front and 4-piston rear brakes, 20-inch forged wheels, free optional MagneRide dampers, Shelby exhaust and various extras.

An extra AU$12,290 nabs you a Whipple Supercharger package yielding 800hp, and if you really want to make a statement with your Mustang’s visuals, a AU$35,990 widebody package ($46,990 if you’d like a stripe with that).
Fully loaded, and you’re looking somewhere around AU$153,000 + your $60,000 5.0lt V8 Mustang.
Call it a hair over $200,000 when it’s all said and done.
Yes, that’s a lot – but this car is all about big numbers: almost 600kW, almost 1000Nm of torque.
It’s got more power than you’ll ever need in a road car, and more street presence than anything can match.
It’s still a Mustang, it’s still ready for everyday use. But you’ve got more than your healthy dose of white-knuckled classic muscle car appeal, in a modern package.
