Forget the big glam sixes and eights, what about an early Torana four?

Torana HB classic runabout – today’s tempter
Basic and cheerful - we suspect this one would be a lot of fun.

We couldn’t resist bringing you this one – a simple and cheerful car that we strongly suspect would deliver a whole lot of fun.

It’s a 1969 HB Holden Torana, which is the early ‘short’ generation before the local engineers got stuck in and turned the series into fire-breathing sixes.

This one is dressed up as a Brabham, though it may not be one – no matter, the owner says the red stripes peel off. We’d leave them there.

The basic mechanicals for these things were originally a 1.2 litre four claiming 56 horses (there were higher-horsepower variants) and this one looks pretty original under the bonnet. It’s a floor-shift manual, a four-speed, and the interior looks like it’s pretty good.

The owner says it has Koni shocks all round, along with a new water pump and battery. Asking price is $8500.

According to the owner: If you don't like people waving and smiling at you, then this probably isn't the car for you." Yep, that sounds about right…
