1974 Ford XB Falcon GT sedan
Sold: $78,000
Shannons
In Unique Cars 417 I had the XB GT four-door as one of my favourite three Aussie cars. The closing chapter of Ford’s Falcon GT history, this one has the 351ci, 4-speed manual combo and is one of seven finished in mushroom beige. It remains almost as delivered and has been well maintained over the years, with the engine reconditioned in 1982, as well as a repaint. The interior is in remarkably original nick. It was offered with delivery books, history file and a letter of verification from Ford Australia.
2014 Bentley Continental GT
Sold: $127,000
Silverstone
From the private collection of Sir Elton John comes this stunning black beauty. It has over three A4 pages of options so it would have cost him a gold record or two when new. It has travelled just over 21,000 miles and features diamond quilted leather seats, embroidered winged ‘B’ headrest emblems, drilled alloy pedals, a knurled sports gear lever, and a jewel fuel filler cap. Sir Elton took delivery in June 2014 and passed it on to his husband, David Furnish in April 2015. Owner’s books and service history accompany it.
1968 Honda S800 roadster
Sold: $29,000
Shannons
These early sporty Hondas pop up once in a blue moon. They are about as heavy as a paper clip and not much bigger. The powertrain features many lessons learnt from Honda’s motorcycle racing. The engine has an alloy block and head, twin overhead cams and is fuelled by four tiny carburettors. The current owner has had it for 37 years. With 73,968 miles showing it has been dwelling in a garage since 1994. It is an original and unmolested example of a rare, pioneering Honda sportscar.
1960 Jaguar Mark II 3.8 Saloon manual
Sold: $38,000
Shannons
Remember the Mk II Jag being slid around the streets of London at odd angles chasing villians in the Sweeney? This model also gave Bob Jane two Aussie touring car titles. Jaguar guru Ian Cummins once owned and restored this beauty, fitting the manual gearbox. This MkII has been superbly maintained, its engine having travelled 12,000 miles since a rebuild in 2002. It was sold with the original owner’s handbook.
1953 Holden FJ ute
Sold: $32,000
Shannons
Holden’s response to Ford’s ute launched 19 years earlier. Offered with no reserve, it has been refurbished and well maintained by its current owner. Since new just 91,452 miles have been travelled. It was repainted in December 2016 and over $3000 spent on it in February 2017, rebuilding the steering column, overhauling the brakes, along with sundry minor items. To show its reliability, the FJ ute was driven from Orange to Sydney for the auction.
