Unique Cars #342 cover star up for grabs, three owners from new
The gorgeous Tangerine 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS350 on offer here appeared on the cover of Unique Cars #342 as part of a four-car feature.
It presents in fantastic and largely original condition with just three extensively documented owners from new.
The HQ Monaro is currently, and has been between various shoots, on display at the Holden Museum in Trafalgar, Victoria; and is currently listed on our classifieds for $220,000.
The car was delivered new on January 2nd 1974 to South Motors Box Hill, Victoria; its first owner was Bartlett Trailers in Clayton Victoria.
This car was ordered along with another HQ GTS350, a purple twin, for the two brother company directors.
The Tangerine car was used as a second family vehicle until it was stored at the company premises for nearly 12 years, during which Mr Bartlett the owner contacted the Victorian Monaro Club to enquire about selling the vehicle.
The Club successfully found the Monaro GTS’ second ever owner, a Bendigo-based who owned the car for a short time before selling it to the third and current owner in 2005.
The car’s driveline, including the 350 Chev V8, three-speed auto and Sailisbury diff, remain entirely original.
In 2014, the car was subjected to an extensive respray and rebuild by Chris Henry, a Victorian-based restorer and Hot Rod builder.
During the respray, all chromework was refinished to the highest standard, and all bolt-ons were dismantled and re-fitted to the highest fit and finish.
Apart from the paint work, the car’s interior and boot remain entirely original and untouched, with the original engine bay receiving a minor tidy-up.
Overall, the car represents as a survivor that’s been treated with the utmost care for almost its entire life.
The odometer reads just 59,192kms.
