VACC Centennial 2018 - Gallery
The VACC turned 100 in 2018 and celebrated with a 100 car road trip. Here's a look back at the colourful collection of cars and characters...
The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018 with a cavalcade of 100 vehicles. It was an ambitious idea and the event is believed to be the first of its kind in the world.
The cars met at Calder Park Raceway before heading up to Bendigo, where it all began for the VACC on 20 September, 1918. A large variety of vehicles was on show, with over 60 brands represented. Each car represented one year of the past 100 years of motoring. The day was hosted by actor and passionate motoring enthusiast, Shane Jacobson – he brought his own WB ute to take part in the cavalcade.
Some of the most notable cars included an original 1957 Mercedes Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’ and a 1975 Leyland Force 7 Coupe. Also included was the one time silver screen star, the 1969 Aston Martin DBS Vantage Coupe used for all of the driving sequences in the James Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The large crowd around Bendigo Town Hall precinct welcomed the cars to a Pebble Beach concours style presentation. Event ambassador Shane Jacobson presented a brief history of each car on a purpose built stage. Afterwards there was Show ’n' Shine with a chance to get up close to the vehicles and talk to the owners.
