Big variety from Chrysler and Simca at this year's Chryslers by the Bay
Chryslers by the Bay 2017
The annual Chryslers by the Bay show celebrated its 21st year on the luch lawns of Geelong Grammar School last weekend. The event was organised and hosted by the Bay City Chrysler Car Club of Geelong (BCCCC). It continues to draw strong crowds of Chrysler enthusiasts, year after year.
A large variety of Chryslers were on show, with over 260 cars rolling in on the day. BCCCC President, Paul Allwood said, "It was nice to see few new ones that hadn't been seen before" at the event. He continued, "Each year we are trying to encourage the family feel", and that definitely shone through, with a large number of families coming out.
VF Valiant owner Frank Stosic noted "it was great to see the diversity of cars on the day…it’s a great event to introduce the passion for Chryslers with my son."
There was much to see with a broad range of makes and models ranging from the 1920s right through to modern day Chryslers.
There was a selection of vendor stalls, and all car entries were eligible for some awards. Special guests such as the SIMCA car club of Australia were also invited for the first time to a Chrysler car show, with a 1960 Simca Vedette winning the 1956-1961 sponsors choice award.
Some of the most notable cars included a very neat 1975 VJValiant Charger Sportsman, complete with ’70s plaid trim. A VG Valiant Pacer hardtop 245 Hemi was a real standout for originality. It was signed by the man most associated with the Valiant Charger racing program, Leo Geoghegan. Mopar muscle and classic slant sixes were all well represented. Not forgetting the head turning lime green 1971/72 Dodge Challenger with an almighty 426 Hemi under the bonnet.
The show is a must for anyone looking for a great day out, relaxed atmosphere, great food, and a gold coin donation for entry. Be sure to head down to the next event. For more information head to the BCCCC website.
