Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport 2014

The 25th Annual Phillip island Classic Festival of Motorsport is one of the largest and most respected historic race meetings on the international calendar and this year will celebrate the amazing life and achievements of Sir Jack Brabham.

Sir Jack Brabham

Sir Jack is patron of the Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR) and is expected to be joined at this year's Classic Festival by his 1966 World Championship winning Repco Brabham BT19, along with members of the Repco team that built its V8 engine. Many rival cars from Brabham's early racing years will make an appearance, including the Mayback I raced by his late arch-rival, Doug Whiteford.

Now aged 87, Sir Jack will do a lap of honour of the circuit and be feted by many of the drivers he competed against over the years, as well as by others who took part in his journey to win his three World F1 titles.

Mark Donohue's IROC 911

One of the world's most famous and valuable racing 911s, Mark Donohue's 1974 Carrera RSR 3.0-litre coupe will make its Australian competition debut at the Island. New owner, Melbourne rare car dealer, Jeff Dutton will drive the 911 in regularity events. Although still in excellent condition after 40 years, the 911 required some work to return to its original factory specification.

The distinctive 'Continental Orange' RSR 3.0 was just one of 15 special, mechanically-idential 911 Carrera coupes built by Porsche for a 'who's who' of racing drivers to contest the International Race of Champions (IROC) series in the United States in 1974.

Another famous racing Porsche running under the Dutton Garage's banner is a 1988 Le Mans 'Blaupunkt' Porsche 962 appearing in the Sports Car feature races.

V8 Supercars

A field of 30 V8 Supercars from 1993-2002 is expected to grid up for several rolling-start demonstrations, reviving memories of one of the greatest eras of Australian Touring Car racing. Some cars, in their authentic, original livery will be in the hands of their original race drivers. The cars include the 1999 Bathurst winning Wynn's Racing VT Commodore and the ex-Dick Johnson AUII Shell-Helix Falcon that finished second at Bathurst in 2000.

Famous Holdens formerly raced by Peter Brock, Larry Perkins, Jim Richards and Wayne Gardner, plus Falcons once driven by Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Glenn Seton and Alan Jones are expected to take part in the demonstration.

Peter Brock

The event will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of Peter Brock’s 1973-74 Australian Touring Car Championships with his 1973 Torana XU1, 1974 SLR5000 and 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour-winning 7-litre Holden Monaro 427C on display in the paddock.

Plus…

- An expected 35 Forumla 5000 V8-engined racers from the 1970s, including leading cars from New Zealand, the USA, Canada and the UK.

- Several former Formula 1 cars from the 1980s.

- A large field of former Group C (1973-84) and Group A (1985-92) touring cars

- Car club displays will also be present as part of the annual Shannons Walk.
