We head along to the monthly Cars & Coffee meet to see what’s what

On the first Sunday of every month, a small group of motorists gather on the roof of the Eureka Tower car park for a morning of cars… and well… coffee.

There have been a number of cars & coffee events about town over the years, most fall victim to one too many over-enthusiastic V8 drivers botching a skid on the way out and hitting a neighbouring fence (possibly hyperbole, but I have seen it happen!).

| Events: What's on in your state?

The magic of the Wilson meet-ups is that it has thus far remained in relatively low numbers. Generally, it’s a quality over quantity turn out, all marques and models welcome – with a diverse blend of origins.

Flick through the gallery above, or read on to see a few cars which caught our eye.

We followed this dead-set gorgeous BMW E9 coupe into the meet. A Karmann-built ‘neue-klasse’ coupe built from 1968-1975 – they utilised one of a number of different variations of BMW’s M30 straight-six.

Designed by Gandini, the Maserati Ghibli is one of our favourite 90s gems. Visually very similar to the Shamal, the Ghibli boasted a twin-turbo V6 and was more luxuriously appointed.

Manufactured from 1972 to 1976, the Volkswagen SP2 was initially developed and sold solely for the Brazilian market in order to replace the Karmann-Ghia after importation was closed in the 70s. It’s powered by a 1700cc flat-four air-cooled boxer engine.

Genuine Calais wagon! And flying the flag for our mates at Street Machine!

Another showstopper: this custom 1950 Cadillac Coupe is an ex-feature car of ours (Issue 349!) and was parked at the very top of the car park. Chopped and smoothed, it’s certainly a sight to behold!

If you’re keen to get along to one of these quiet Sunday morning meets; they take place at the start of every month, at the Eureka car park rooftop, 70 City Road Southbank.

All it costs is the price of a parking ticket ($11 on Sundays!). Maybe we’ll see you there!
