Local hero car
While it seems that local seventies chrome bumper cars grab the spotlight, there is an alternative that really would stand out at the next cars and coffee meet: This Elfin MS8.
A local low-volume maker of some note, Elfin has won a swag of motorsport titles across the decades, here and in New Zealand.
This car represents a revival of the marque in the early 2000s, which included the involvement of Walkinshaw Performance and legendary designer Mike Simcoe. Trained at RMIT in Melbourne, he’s currently Vice-president of Global Design for General Motors.
As for the MS8, this low-volume roadster was designed as a more upmarket (and comfortable) alternative to the firm’s Clubman, running an LS1 V8 with a six-speed Tremec transmission.
As they’re very low volume and readily customised as part of the original build, you’re unlikely to see two exactly alike.
This example runs a supercharger and claims a somewhat daunting 330kW at the rear wheels. Located in the ACT, it’s priced at $85,000.
