Most Split Window Kombi's on the market now are from the early to mid 60s-era. This is a 1955 (Body number 20-149869 panel van with 4 added windows) Australian delivered RHD (very first model delivered after the Barn door) making this Kombi one of the oldest fully restored and detailed in Australia, at 65 years old.
The Kombi has full NSW registration with engineers certificate to carry 6 people with inertia seat belts front and back. Rego: 55 KOMB (Plates included) Expiry 22/8/2021
Fully rebuilt 1600cc engine by Stan Pobjoy's Racing Engineering, just run in and serviced at 1500kls.

The majority of quality parts source for this vehicle were imported from VW Heritage Parts Centre in England.
Fully sand blasted (inner and outer) bare metal Rotisserie Restoration (work completed in June 2019) by professional with 40 years classic vehicle restoration experience.

Complete underside (all edges seam sealed) finished in 2-Pack primer then 2- Pack solid colour. Floor pans light grey, chassis mid grey with all mechanical components in dark grey.

All inside panels rust proofed and insulated. Inside floor pan 2- pack white.

Exterior bodywork maintaining as much as possible original 55 Kombi panels. Only new centre floor, inner and outer sills, jack mounts and section of RH side panel. All other repairs were restoring original panels with 18 gauge zinc anile steel sections where required.

Exterior body 2- pack etched and primed and then coloured in 2-pack Solid 'Beach Blue' and 'Diamond White'.

New front screens and 4 opening side windows, all other glass is original.

Complete new wiring loom (front to back including engine bay now 12 volt system). Reconditioned Alternator fitted. Side flashers (semaphores) fully functional.

All carpet and trim work is marine grade.

Ply used for most trim backing to ensure strength and minimal fasters to trim work.

Most fasteners/bolts/screws have been replace with high grade stainless steel.

Front seat is original 55 bench seat. Spare wheel and tools behind front seat.

Rear seat is 'Rock and Roll' folds down into a bed with storage underneath. Australian complied.

The centre floor is insulation and covered with high gloss timber finish laminate. This space gives the option of more seating/weddings or fitting out as camper.

Front and rear bars have been fabricated as very strong close fitting wrap around (3mm flat bar) to give the Kombi's original body height a lower sleek look. Original front and rear bars and brackets will still fit on original mounts if required.

Original Kombi front and rear suspensions have been fully rebuilt to retain the originality and feel of the 1955 model. Front and rear sway bars have been fitted.

New, front steering tie rods, link arm, steering damper, wheel bearings, king/link pins, front and rear brake drums, brake shoes and components, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and complete brake pipe system front to back.

All cables front to back are new.

Rear reduction hubs have been upgraded from the small nut 36mm to large nut 46mm (post 63) which is a heavier duty component gear size and higher ratio to suit the AB gear box for 100/110 kph cruising. All rear bearings and seals/boots have been replaced.

Reconditioned Gearbox is a highway flyer 4 speed all synchromesh AB type box (strong casting) with a 4th gear ratio of .82. Differential is an 8 bolt with Ratio of 4.125. These ratio's give a 4th gear cruising speed of 105kph at optimal revs in top gear of 3400. 110kph at 3500rpm. New clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing.

Engine is a fully rebuilt 1600cc by Stan Pobjoy's Racing Engineering. New pistons, rings, bearings, heads, flywheel, EMPI extractors, HD 30mm oil pump, fuel pump. Crank ground and lynished and engine components dynamic balanced. Camshaft is a torque producing Stan Pobjoy ground 22/62 cam.

Engine is cooled by a Dog House shroud with large fan and large aluminium oil cooler. All engine and shroud rubber seals are new.
On last outing a 200klm run, engine sat at a constant 180F at 3400rpm top gear (105kph) on a 37 degree Celsius day.
