Aiming to fill a gap in the small sports car market, Scimitar SS1 was launched in 1984 at the International Motor Show in Birmingham. It was Michelottis last design. Only 1,507 models were produced. This car was one of the last SS1 to leave the factory in 1990, so maybe you can own a piece of motoring history! However, and more importantly you will not have this much fun with any other completely restored classic for the asking price.

It has incredible road holding, a slick desirable four speed gearshift and an exhaust note to die for from its aftermarket Powerflow stainless steel exhaust system. I bought this car two years ago to have fun in restoring a lovely piece of British motoring history. Now completed I'm considering selling her to someone who can enjoy a rare, but beautiful car; during its restoration the seats have been re-trimmed along with the switches, new door cards (trims), window winders and door rubber (seals), new stereo/cd player. The engine has had an overhaul including cam-belt, new front shock absorbers, battery, front headlamp lift-motors, relays front side/indicator lights, copper brake pipes, O/S door handle; locking mechanism, front driving (spot lamps), number plates on chrome surrounds. The SS1 has been professionally resprayed in its original colour; Jade Green Metallic (base coat and clear) and rebadged. The wheels are the top of the range Scimitar diamond cut alloys with a new set of tyres.

The chassis is a Lotus Elan and fully galvanised (no rust). The 1.4 L engine is a Ford CVH unit, front mounted driving the rear wheels through a four-speed gearbox. The suspension is independent all round using coil springs with semi trailing arms at the rear. The body panels were made of polyurethane or glass reinforced polyester, fitted to a semi space-frame backbone chassis. The panels were designed to be easily removed and replaced to repair accident damage. Fitted with a removable hard top (with sunroof) and comes with a new soft-top. MOT to August 2020.

This car has unusual uncovered rectangular Porsche 928-style spitfire pop-up headlamps and shared many components with production cars of the day, such as Austin-Rover switchgear and gauges. It is currently one of the most affordable classic small sports convertibles on the second hand market, with low running costs and readily available parts. The post 1986 models with a galvanised chassis can be identified by having a single windscreen wiper.
