To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' The Sáragga Collection event, 20 - 21 September 2019. Estimate:50,000 - 70,000 A seldom-seen French-built automobileDesirable four-cylinder model The French-built Rochet-Schneider was produced from 18941932. Located in Lyon, the company was formed by Edouard Rochet, who made bicycles with his father, and Theophile Schneider. Initially, cars were Benz-like, then inspired by Panhard, and subsequently by Mercedes as evidenced by the V-shaped grille of this example. During WWI, the company made lorries for the Army, resuming auto production in 1918 with pre-war models. Following 1932, the firm concentrated on trucks and busses, having discontinued the production of automobiles. While Rochet-Schneider built both four- and six-cylinder models, this example is powered by a four-cylinder engine and is fitted with rear-mounted dual spare tires. Its lovely brass radiator and trim pieces, along with a wooden cowl, are quite typical of the cars of the earlier Brass Era, and it would be an interesting addition to any collection of French automobiles. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pg19.
