SUPERB QUALITY ICONIC CRUISER
The Toronado was America's First Front Wheel Drive Car Since the Cord in 1937, GM's 'Compact Sports/Personal Car' used what they described as their 'Unitized Power Package' (UPP), Allowing the Fitment of the Full Sized Big Block V8 in an Engine Bay Designed for Rear Wheel Drive. To Overcome the Limited Space the Toronado Required Another Engineering First for GM, this being the use of Torsion Bar Front Suspension.
Starting in 1968 Oldsmobile Replaced the Original 425ci Super Rocket for the Larger 455ci Variant, Dropping 10 Horsepower, but Gaining 35lb.ft of Torque. To Provide Front Wheel Drive, a New Transversely Mounted TurboHydramatic Automatic Transmission was Designed, the THM425, this was The Only Transmission Available, as a Manual Linkage was Deemed to Not Be Feasible.
This First Generation, 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado has been a part of Two Large Car Collections Since Arriving in Australia, Firstly the Lost In The 50's Museum, then a Private Victorian Collection. The Bodywork is in Superb Condition, with Concours Quality Red Paintwork and Brilliant Chromework Accentuating the Late 60's Styling.
The Interior Trim is in Excellent Condition, Finished in Classic Contrasting Black, Featuring a 'Slot Machine' Speedometer, 8 Track Player, AM/FM Radio, Air Conditioning, Power Windows and a Flat Floor Without the Need for a Transmission Tunnel, Allowing the Accommodation of 6 Adults with Considerably More Comfort than it's Equivalent Rear Wheel Drive Competitors.
The Toronado with its Torque Driven V8 Power, Smooth Automatic Transmission, Power Steering, Air Conditioning and Supple Suspension Provides a Superb Classic American Style Cruising Experience. A Great Way for you to Share your Motoring Passion with Family or Friends.
