The Morgan Motor Company is one of the pioneers of motoring having started producing three wheelers in 1910, while their first 4 wheel car did not appear until 1935 with the introduction of the Coventry-Climax engined 4/4, signifying 4 wheel/4 cylinder, retaining the three wheelers sliding pillar style of front suspension which started back in 1910, a feature still used by Morgan today.
The Plus 4 was introduced in 1950 as a successor to the 4/4 and featured a 102mm longer wheelbase. The first of the series were fitted with a Standard Vanguard 2088cc engine which produced 68hp, an increase of 75% over the Standard Special 1267cc engine fitted in the 4/4, and for the first time Morgan fitted hydraulic drum brakes.
This 1951 Plus 4 is finished in Red with Black guards and features a tan hood and tonneau. For greater comfort on the interior, the bench seat has been altered, with the backrest split, allowing two separate seats. The woodgrain dashboard is complemented by a wood rimmed steering wheel, white faced speedo and tacho, and black auxiliary gauges.
Mechanically the Morgan has been uprated with a steering rack conversion, the fitment of an alternator and a Weber 34 2BBL carburettor, providing a superior driving experience, without loosing any character.
