Description
1969 MGC GTS - SEBRING TRIBUTE
SN:4403 VIN:GCD16811G ENG:XSP4414027H
$140,000
(To be sold Unregistered & with Vic RWC)
FULLY ENGINEERED 3.2L ALLOY INLINE SIX
Debuted at the 1967 Targa Florio, the prototype MGC GTS, running a 4 cylinder and standard B bonnet, finished 3rd in class and was unnoticed as anything more than an MGB GT, allowing their 2nd debut in competition 6 cylinder specification, at the 1968 Sebring 12 hour, finishing 1st in class and 10th overall.
With MGs Competition Department closing in 1970, the MGC GTSs were the last competition MGs to leave Abingdon. Although only two were built by the competition department, a total of 6 shells had been built, with the remaining 4 shells and all of the competition departments spare parts sold to John Chatham.
Under Chathams ownership and direction the final 4 GTSs were finished. One of which was fitted with an original aluminium 2nd generation BMC C-Series engine, mounted 4 further back than standard, allowing for vastly improved performance and handling.
After a conversation with John Chatham at the 2013 European Healey meeting, an enthusiastic Victorian started drawing up plans for his tribute. Commissioning The Healey Factory to undertake the GTS tribute in March 2016.
Gaining import approval on the 16th of February 2016, this MG CGT, had made the long journey to Australia via New Zealand, where it had resided since 1980. Originally finished in Snowberry White, with Overdrive, a heater and painted wire wheels this GT was destined for bigger and better things.
Signed off with a Victorian VASS engineering certificate on the 14th of April 2020 the MGC GTS now features a 3.2L DMD all alloy C-Series straight six, driven through its Tremec 5 speed gearbox via a Ford Granada LSD, a superb improvement from the Cs original 145hp, with the added benefit of greatly reduced weight and superior weight balance, with the DMD engine fitted as far back in the engine bay as possible, much akin to Chathams design.
To support the vastly improved performance, the MGC is fitted with power assisted front and rear disc brakes featuring 6 piston Wilwood calipers on the front as well as a Hoyle Suspension independent rear suspension unit incorporating telescopic shock absorbers, and ball joint front suspension.
Presenting immaculately with its deep, rich red bodywork featuring, Sebring wider arches and front & rear valances, 15x8 spline drive Minilite alloy wheels, twin driving lamps and a C pillar mounted Aston fuel filler this GTS is true to the period examples.
The cabin features period style, deeper, more supportive fixed back seats finished in red leather, complementing the red door cards and contrasting the grey carpets, black diamond chequed transmission tunnel, leather Motolita steering wheel and dashboard, fitted with a full complement of custom VDO gauges.
Listed for near the component only price, without any labour this MGC GTS is a bargain for anyone who is looking to restore or restomod a 60s classic, with the added benefit of test driving the final product and knowing exactly what you are buying without time delays.
