To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' The Sáragga Collection event, 20 - 21 September 2019. Estimate:35,000 - 45,000 Delivered new to PortugalLovely green-and-black colour scheme with dual rear-mounted spares The 170 was conceived as a contender in the medium-sized and medium-priced market. It put Mercedes-Benz cars within reach of a much wider market. Nearly 70,000 were produced by 1941. The car was offered in a variety of styles because of its mixed construction technique of sheet steel cladding over a wooden framework. This was also the first Mercedes-Benz built with independent suspension at all four corners. Power came from a six-cylinder 1,692 cc engine, capable of 32 bhp, managed via a four-speed manual gearbox.Documentation from the Automvel Club de Portugal states that this example was first registered in Portugal when new in September of 1934. Finished in green with black fenders and a matching black interior and complemented with dual rear-mounted spares, this charming pre-war Mercedes-Benz would be a thrill to drive and enjoy. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/pg19.
