This ex-British Territorial Army, 1979 Land Rover 109 Fitted For Radio (FFR) 24V Series III is a long-wheelbase, right-hand drive example that was reportedly used as a radio truck by the British TA (which explains the low mileage) in Northern Ireland {4/5 Rangers (V) and 57 log Sp Sqn RLC}. The sellers acquired this truck from two British Military re-enactment enthusiasts in the north of England, who displayed it at military exhibitions. She is now offered for sale and collection in Hay-on-Wye, Hereford.

The sellers, John and Duncan are two old friends who love renovating vintage cars. Duncan recently imported a 1969 Karmann Ghia project car into the UK from California and is now restoring her to her former glory. John was in the British Army for 30 years and is passionate about military Land Rovers, having been in and around them since he was 16. He recently restored a half ton Lightweight Land Rover Series III, which is now his pride and joy.

This 109 Series III Land Rover was in good condition when the sellers acquired her and they have since made the following improvements: New front and rear seats (Britpart, new for old), 4 x new tyres (Goodyear G90 MT 750/80/16), Exmoor Trim New canopy (original faded green one included in the sale if required); Both fuel tanks and fuel pipes cleaned; Fuel pick up pipe filter; Radiator expansion tank removed, cleaned and refitted; Washer bottle also removed cleaned and refitted and pump replaced; ; New wiper blades; New thermostat; New water heater control valve fitted; New radiator muff; New front seat turn buckle; New fuel tank gaskets; Rest rail bolts; Under seat fuel tank filter; Dash vent; Front driver and passenger window channels restored; New rear view mirror; New rubber matting. Replacement VRM plates to meet with the vehicles vintage and mounting plate to the front. The chassis has been undersealed and is in good order. The truck has also just been serviced, documentation for which is available.

Finished in desert sand (originally green) over a NATO Green interior, the truck is powered by a 2.25L gasoline inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. This Series III 109 FFR 24V is offered with a clean UK title in Johns name and comes with a military FFR Dexion radio racking as well as the original front and rear seats that the seller has replaced, in case the buyer would like to retain the original worn seats. Body-matched 16 steel wheels are mounted with Goodyear G90 MT 750/80/16 tyres. The front grill is fitted with a radiator muff that can be opened or closed depending on the season.

The 2.25L gasoline-powered inline-four features a recently replaced carburetor. An engine start-up video is shown in the above mentioned YouTube video links. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 4-speed synchromesh manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. The truck has had a under seal coating applied to the underside.

Blemishes of note include: The front right wing has been repaired, as shown in the pictures; There are two red steel plates in the drivers footwell - one under the accelerator pedal and one to the left of the clutch pedal; A non-military rear cross member has replaced the original military standard issue version fitted at least 5 years ago, one would assume when the dent in the tail gate was incurred by the NATO hitch which was removed by previous owners; Very minor corrosion is noted in the following areas: Rear leaf springs, under bonnet and front bulkhead ; There are some chips, dents, and scratches in the paintwork commensurate with its military service and 40 year life span.

We trust the pictures and videos provide a good overview of the truck, but please do not hesitate to ask if there is anything further that you would like to see.
