1965 Mustang Fastback K-code

Built on 13th January 1965 this Fastback K-code was the highest performance Mustang model available at the time and remained so until 1967. The Fastback K-code was the original Mustang muscle car and was the basis of the Shelby GT350 that became available later in 1965. It also predates the Mustang GT and Pony interior options. Less than 1% of all 1965 Mustangs were Fastback K-codes making this a car a rare early Mustang.

This Mustang, K-CODED, has been kept as a fine weather Sunday driver for the past 36 years, travelling only 3000 miles since its complete restoration in the early 1980s at 62,500 miles. It currently has only 65,839 original miles on the clock. Photos and receipts from that restoration show a full bare metal restoration retaining the complete original bodywork. The receipts show many original Ford parts were used in the overall rebuild as they were all available 36 years ago.

The car was repainted in its original Ivy Green colour and today retains a brilliant mirror finish shine. After 37 years there is no rust at all in the car, proving the quality of the restoration and the care shown for the car since.

During the restoration the high performance (hipo) engine was fully rebuilt by an engine machine shop and key Shelby GT350 items added which included the Cobra high-rise intake manifold, a 4-barrell Holly 600cfm carburettor, and tri-y extractors.

The hipo engine retains all the expected hipo components including: strengthened main bearing caps, larger conrod bolts, timing chain balancer weight, larger alternator pulley, larger crankshaft harmonic balancer, twin point distributor, hipo heads with a 19 casting number and chrome valve covers and air cleaner.

The Ford 4-speed top-loader (close ratio) transmission and 9 rear differential were refurbished and re-installed. The entire driveline, with only 3000 miles since the rebuild, is in excellent condition.

Original features of this car also include the interior with fully working and rare rally-pac, Kelsey Hayes 4-pot front disc brakes, the special handling suspension package and rear brake drums with casting date of November 1964.

The car came to Australia in 2004 and was registered in Victoria. KCODED is currently on full Victorian registration following a roadworthy obtained by the current owner in 2017.

This car looks stunning, drives and sounds like the original muscle car should.
