Description
We are very pleased to offer for sale this wonderful Caterham 7. Its chassis number contains TC confirming it was fitted with a Lotus Twin Cam engine, and the engine number matches that on the identification plate. Being produced in 1980 makes it an early Caterham car fitted with one of the last Lotus Twin Cam engines prior to switching to Ford power. Indeed, early Caterhams with Twin Cam engines are seen as quite rare cars with only 313 believed produced between 1974 and 1983.
Documents confirm that this car was imported from the UK in 2018, and we believe it has had 2 owners since. The current owner bought it a year ago and due to a change in personal circumstances is now downsizing his car collection.
Overall, the car is in good sound order. We believe the colour of the nose and guards were originally yellow, but the black paint suits the car and has been well applied.
It comes with a roll bar which will need adjustment to fit. There are no windscreen wipers or motors currently fitted indicating this may have had aero screens fitted at some point in the past.
The car has been freshly serviced, and we understand from the previous sales literature that the previous owner installed a new Clutch, Ring Gear, Fuel Pump and had the Carbs rebuilt amongst other items.
Start the engine and you immediately hear the classic tone of a Lotus Twin Cam engine. In front of you is a dash with an array of early Smiths gauges and toggle switches which look pin sharp and appealing to the eye.
Engage gear using the timber gear knob and the moment you release the clutch you are reminded of how little mass this engine has to move. The car just leaps away, and the acceleration coupled with the throaty engine note is intoxicating. It is an immediate reminder of why these cars are so iconic and have endured as a drivers favourite.
Out on the open road this car cannot fail to put a smile on your face as it invites engagement and spirited driving. The legendary handling is just sublime.
The underside of the car is in very good and clean order. The interior is functional and far from luxurious, but its simplicity is appealing and it does the job. The car comes with a hood and side screens with cycle style front guards if the new owner wished to fit those.
The car has been recently serviced and is ready for its next owner to continue the journey of owning an iconic and early Twin Cam Caterham 7.
