Baur partnered with BMW beginning in the 1930s, producing open-top convertibles. Baur envisioned the market for a BMW convertible featuring a drop-top before BMW did, and the two teamed up to make the convertible 3-Series.

Baur started with a 3-Series coupe by sawing off the roof. However, this posed a safety problem as it had no rigidity built into the body or the chassis, as the coupe was not built to be a convertible in the first place. Baur had to engineer this rigidity into the top with the safety pillars. In complete roof open mode, you can see the safety pillars, the C-pillar, a huge bar connecting the B-pillar on the left side of the car to the A-pillar on the right side.

However it wasnt quite a full convertible Part Sunroof over the front seats, with a Convertible Folding Roof over the back seat. It has a removable centre roof section that stows in the trunk, leaving a sunroof while the rear soft top section folds down (OR NOT) which is a typical early convertible top style, similar in design to the soft-window PORSCHE 911 Targa.

Looks fabulous for its age regularly turns heads and receives lots of comments on its condition. Nearly everything on this car has been restored by professionals to a high standard.

For a 36-year-old car, you will find it hard to find another in this condition.

This comes without my personalised number plates.

This has 376,000 on the speedo but the engine was rebuilt at 305,000. (71,000 km on new engine)

Most parts have been rebuilt, repaired or replaced. With so many upgrades and improvements, there is not enough room to mention them all.


1. Painted in the classic BMW Polaris Metallic Silver, which is in excellent condition and was professionally resprayed 8 years back. It has no major dents or scratches on any of the panels and retains a luxurious lustre.
2. It has its original removable blue cloth-covered centre roof section which locks tightly in place, as it should.
3. The blue folding soft top at the back has a clear plastic rear window, showing some sun fade, from living in Queensland, but it is without rips or tears and folds down neatly.
4. All the locking mechanisms for the convertible roof, work and function perfectly as they should.
5. It has its original black canvas cover (which clips on when the roof is folded down) all is complete with no damage and clips on tightly as it should.
6. The wheels are imported 15-inch Inverted Dish Italian Alpina Sports which improve the stability and represent the classic era of the vehicle impeccably.
7. Fitted with brand new Ultra Sport Radial Tyres.
8. The Interior dash is original, apart from the addition of a late model blue tooth stereo.
9. The front bucket seats are body-hugging, fully imported Italian Ricaro Sports Racing in design. The back seat has recently been professionally reupholstered, in a matching mid grey fabric.
10. The headlights are Angel Eyes with strong upgrades for night driving.
11. Rebuilt E30 Engine. Rebuilt at 305,000
12. Manual 5-speed transmission.
13. Airconditioning.
14. The Front end has been rebuilt and upgraded.
15. Front Slotted Drilled Disc Brakes. Rebuilt rear Brakes with linings and slave cylinders.
