It is not a BMW 2002 Turbo; they are rare and were never an Australian delivered car, so the livery and badging is just a tribute. What you have here is an Australian delivered car BMW 02 Series, 2002 model.
The Calypsorot Metallic (Calypso Red) colour was borrowed from the first generation of the BMW 8 Series (E31), and a huge improvement on the original Chamonix (Vanilla White) paintwork.
No, there is no turbo fitted and it is not a matching numbers engine; however, the engine has been rebuilt with 200km run on the motor since leaving the workshop late April 2019. For those who recognise the advert during the last 12 months, it has rebuilt a second time after an issue with the pistons.
Fully restored to factory condition by Bavarian Engineering, Southern Sydney's Premier Independent BMW Service Centre, the car is in excellent condition and mechanically perfect including:
> Rebuilt dynoed dual Dellorto carburettors
> Rebuilt four-speed Borg-Warner gearbox
> Rewired electrical
> Bare metal rust repairs, and under the car it has been treated with rust preventative afterwards
> Ireland Engineering Turbo body kit with distinguishable racing stripes, deep front air dam, wheel arch extensions and boot-mounted spoiler (painted piano black). Note the front fenders and rear side panels have not been cut to fit the wheel arches in case someone wants to remove the fender flares and return to original condition.
> Piano black painted front grille and badges, fitted with LED headlights to make night driving much more visible
> 15x7.0 Lenso BSX Silver (BBS replicas) rims with Continental 195/50R15 tyres, the original BMW alloy Alpina 5.5 x 13 inch ET18 wheels are also available if you want the real 70s look.
> New Bilstein suspension, slightly lowered
> Rebuild factory brakes, front discs and rear drums
> Stainless steel fuel lines and new fuel pump relocated to the boot
> New heavy-duty battery relocated to the boot
> Original seats re-trimmed with black leather, with new rear seat belts
> Re-trimmed front console in black and fitted with the latest model Alpine Apple Play and 6 inch speakers to allow for safe hands free cruising
> New carpet including the boot, new roof liner and factory rear window with demister fitted
> Instrument cluster has matching Calypso Red colour, original dials changed to kilometres instead of miles, and fitted with period correct Momo steering wheel
> New exhaust, now fitted exiting in the middle rear
> New side mirrors and custom rear bumper, shortened with the overriders removed and re-chromed
> New rubber moulds for doors, windows and boot
> NSW historic club plates registered to April 2020
Invested over $85K restoring this car including price of purchase, there are plenty more photos and receipts available on request.
Whats not perfect?
> New hinges fitted to the doors has caused slight misalignment, especially on the drivers door, a panel beater should be able to sort easily
> Small crack on drivers door, just needs a small weld and touch up paint
> Original front seat belts not replaced
> Heater fan motor not working
The car is currently in stored in Sydney but last month (April 2019) the house in Sydney was sold, and now there is no more room and time to enjoy for the car unfortunately since I relocated to Melbourne in early 2018. Therefore, the price has been dropped further to $35,000 to sell.
