Notes from the owner.
1934 Alvis Silver Eagle SG 16-95.
Model SG 16-95 Car No. 16913 Engine 12658 Chassis 12208 all original and matching numbers .Built on Tuesday afternoon 27/11/1934 with the chassis being sent to Holbrook Ltd. to have a light Saloon body fitted (Alvis never made the bodies)
One of about 37 of the 500 manufactured known by the Alvis Car Club GB. and the only one in NZ. complete running chassis discovered in Christchurch with no vestige of any bodywork remaining. Totally rebuilt from chassis up by professional using plans drawn from Vanden Plas design 1177 by the late Ted Loversidge automotive draughtsman.
Capacity is slightly over 2349 cc approx.
Supposedly 16-95 comes from 16 HP with the capacity to reach 95 MPH.
No known previous ownership beyond the vendor from whom I obtained the vehicle.
Mileage is unknown and somewhat irrelevant considering the mechanical work done
The gearbox is the original four speed fully synchronised model which was the first in the world to be fitted to a production car and was subsequently used in all the Alvis military vehicles as well as all further models until production finished in 1938
Comfortably cruises at 75 kph, pulls well and is stopped by 14 inch self energising drum brakes on all four wheels
20 inch straight sided tyres which are virtually new and readily available
The engine is fed by three 1-1/4 inch SU carburettors which were comprehensively rebuilt by Ch Ch SU specialist.
Vehicle priced at $118,000 NZD.
