Surjit is like us here at Trade Classics, a proper petrol head and can talk cars all day long; he has a wide make / model range of interest. However, he perhaps doesnt like to hang onto his cars for as long as we do! For Surjit the thrill is in the research and the chase of a classic car, then running it for a year or two before finding a new owner.

Most of Surjits cars tend to be two seater coupes, and this car fits in to that category perfectly. He owned a 105 series before, and having sold that many years ago, he got a hankering for another one and snapped this one up.

Surjit imported the car from South Africa himself, wanting to get a car that was structurally solid after his last one suffered from rust. This car was as described, and so Surjit set about making the car his. In his ownership, hes; had a new alternator put in, overhauled the gearbox, replaced the clutch, stripped the interior including seats, removed the bumpers.

Now he has his eye set on another car, and is changing up his collection somewhat, and with that the car is up for sale with us.

Finished in red, Surjit picked this car in the main due to the condition of the bodywork. Currently without the bumpers fitted, we love the race/rally look it gives the car.

Wheels & Tyres
Sitting on the original Alfa Romeo wheels, with 14 Continental tyres all around, they look great. The wheels were refurbished in Surjits ownership, and this shows. Take a look at the images to see the condition.

Rot free bodywork was Surjits brief when he was looking for another 105 series, and he found this one in South Africa. On our visit, we didnt observe the usual rust that plagues the 105 in the sills particularly. There is some on the outer skin of the drivers side door, and a bit on the rear window that we saw. In terms of the panel gaps and shut-lines, take a look at the video and photo content to see the cars condition.

The red paint on this car is even in finish and colour across all the panels. Some would say that red is the only colour you should have these cars in! The paint has some cracks in it on a couple of spots across the car, rear boot lid as an example. Watch the extensive video review to see all the details.

Glass and Trim
The trim and glass on this car looks good. The glass doesnt seem to be suffering from the de-lamination that is typical with cars of this age. The bumpers are not attached right now, but you will see in the images they are in good condition, and will be supplied as part of the sale.

Surjit has made the interior of this car his own; carpets stripped, elephantrubber matting installed, seats removed and replaced with 2 front seats of his choice.

Seats and Carpets
Surjit has fitted his own seats in this car, and replaced the carpets with rubber matting. The seats show sign of wear on the deep bolsters. He didnt find the original ones comfortable and hence swapped them out with a set he was happy with. The original seats will be sold with the car, there is an image of them in the gallery, they have been re-upholstered in some funky fabric.

A stock dashboard for this era of 105 series. The dials look good, and we didnt observe any cracking or warping of the dash. Take a look at the video review for a close look.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Gearstick and steering wheel look original on this car. Weve taken video and photos so that you can see the condition in detail.

Surjit took us on a drive out on the local country roads so that we could see how the car performed, watch the video to see the car in action.

Engine and Gearbox
This 105 series is a GT 1600 Junior, and so fitted with the 1.6L version of the twin-cam engine, and a 5 speed manual gearbox. The car started from cold without issue, and the car went through all the gears without issue. What you would expect given that Surjit had the gearbox overhauled when he bought the car. Watch the video to see the car start from cold and running on the road.

Suspension and Brakes
The suspension on this car felt like that of many 105s, on our drive it handled the local roads well, and we didnt observe any issues with braking either. Take a look at some of the underside images to see condition of the suspension parts.

The Drive
We drove around the local roads with Surjit, the car performing as expected, a typical twin-cam Alfa from this era.

Electrics and Other
Surjit informs us that everything is working as it should.
