Commodore SS replacement revealed!

SS name gone and not a V8 in sight

Holden has revealed the range-topping version of the next generation of Commodore, called the VXR.

Described as “the jewel in the next-generation Commodore crown”, the performance oriented model gets Brembo front brakes, driver adjustable suspension, steering, transmission and an adaptive all-wheel drive system.

Power will come from a 3.6lt V6 that will chuck out 235kW and 381Nm, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The all-wheel drive system employed by the VXR is quite trick, and features torque vectoring and a twin-clutch rear differential. According to Holden, this intricate AWD system combined with selectable driver modes “blends power and control for ultimate driver engagement”.

Holden lead dynamic engineer, Rob Trubiani says, “The next-gen Commodore VXR offers a different execution of performance to the outgoing SS but make no mistake, this is a more than worthy successor.

“We’ve been involved in the development of this car from the beginning and I personally have spent significant time behind the wheel overseas and at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground.”

Other features of the SS replacement include adaptive LED Matrix headlights, heated and ventilated leather clad sports seats, 20-inch wheels, a larger rear spoiler, front and rear sports fascias and premium VXR branded sill plates.

The VXR will also host myriad driver aids such as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian protection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision alert, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert and a head-up display.

The new Commodore will be available in early 2018.
