For the first time in the marque’s history, Citroen is to be featured at Pebble Beach
This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will be a special celebration of French innovation as Citroen – for the first time in its history – graces the manicured lawns as this year’s Featured Marque.
Citroen’s first feature sits alongside another brand-first; as we recently reported that the Featured Marque for the Moneterey Historics will be Nissan. The first time a Japanese marque has ever been honoured as featured marque.
Concours Chairman Sandra Button says: “Interest in Citroën among collectors has seen exponential growth in recent years, and the Concours is pleased to showcase custom coachwork Citroëns that offer the best of French technology and design”
Citroen shall join the ranks of esteemed and storied brands such as Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, and Bentley amongst many others.
Monterey Car Week attendees shall no doubt be treated to plenty of Citroen’s innovative designs.
Citroen’s provenance is often overlooked in current times, more so than some of the other brands that have previously held the Pebble Beach honour, but one needs only look at their past achievements to see their status as the 2018 Featured Marque as justified.
The 1955 debut of the Citroen DS shocked the world at the Paris motor show. It was immediately praised, some to this day calling it the most beautiful car ever.
With space age looks, and technology such as aluminium and fibreglass construction, hydro-pneumatic suspension and a never before seen aerodynamic drag coefficient; by the time the Paris show had closed – 12,000 orders had been taken.
Flaminio Bertoni, the same designer who penned the DS also penned the iconic 2CV – which marked its 70 year birthday this year. 8 million are said to have been produced.
This year’s Concours D’Elegance shall take place at Pebble Beach from August 26th.
