Big V8 saloon packs plenty of power
Chrysler’s return to the local market with its headline 300C four-door sedan and later a wagon created plenty of interest – particularly given the marque’s long absence from the local scene.
The big boofy Chrysler has plenty of presence while having no shortage of luxury in the cabin. Even the limo hire industry took them up with gusto, seeing an opportunity to have something that felt good and looked the part.
In the SRT8 – which is the hotrod version of the car – you scored leather and aluminium trim, satnav, a high end entertainment system and climate control.
Under the bonnet is a 6.1lt V8 (a Hemi) claiming 317kW (425hp) of power and a hefty 569Nm of torque. Not surprisingly, this is a quick car. The auto is a five-speed.
This would have set you back somewhere nudging $75-80,000 when it was new – expensive, but solid value at the time.
This example, located in Homebush (NSW) seems to have every feature known to the universe and has a fairly modest 114,000km on the odo. Worth a look at $24,000.
