Chicane Auctions wrapped up its December sale with a result that underscores the strength of the Australian collector-car market.
Leading the charge was a well-kept 1967 Ford XR GT, achieving $145,000 + Buyer’s Premium – a figure reflecting both the rarity of early GTs and the ongoing reverence for the model that kick-started the Falcon GT legend.

Australian muscle continued its strong run with a 1974 Holden LH Torana SLR selling for $90,000 + BP, its upgraded specification clearly resonating with bidders.

A beautifully finished 1955 Ford Customline returned $82,000 + BP, reinforcing rising demand for true nut-and-bolt, high-quality restorations.

An honest 1972 Valiant VH Charger XL, with low ownership and original books, followed with a deserved $52,000 + BP.

In a standout moment for early Australian motoring history, the historically significant 1898 De Dion-Bouton Tricycle & Sulky — one of the earliest surviving internal-combustion vehicles sold new in Australia – achieved $75,500 + BP, giving collectors an exceptionally rare chance to secure a genuine foundation piece of Australian automotive heritage.
Chicane Auctions Managing Daniel Lamprell says the December auction delivered strong results for sellers.
“As a bricks and mortar showroom auction house, Chicane offers the highest vendor-return auction model in Australia, with sellers retaining 100 per cent of the hammer price – no commissions, no deductions and no selling fees,” Lamprell says.
“This advantage becomes especially evident for high value cars.
“As we head into the new year, Chicane’s focus remains unchanged: curated quality, specialist knowledge and zero seller fees.”
