Chevrolet Impala/Monte Carlo 1965-74 – market review 2017-18

Looking for value in your muscle car?

Big-block 1960s Chevrolets and the later Monte Carlo are very different cars and appeal to quite different buyers, but one thing they have in common is price. Around $35,000 buys a 1965-68 Impala two-door Hardtop in nice condition or a Monte of similar quality with the bigger 7.4-litre motor. Automatic transmission is pretty much mandatory however the odd car from the mid-1960s might be found with a factory three or four-speed manual gearbox. As a collector the ones to look for are SS396 Impalas or even the odd car with a 7.0-litre ‘427’ V8 and four-speed ‘stick’ transmission. In North America these reach US$45-50,000 but a big-block convertible can manage US$80K.
