You tend to get a fair bit of metal for your money with a Chev.
Standard 1950s Chevrolets aren’t big on performance but very few surviving cars are in standard condition. Supercharged 1955-57s with engines of 5.3 litres or more will produce better straight-line speed than a lot of modern models, but you will pay for performance. Two-door Bel Airs with late-model muscle under the bonnet can cost $100,000, so too an authentic ‘dual-quad’ carburettor car. Later, bigger bodied 1958-64 Impalas sometimes came with ‘409’ cubic inch [6.7-litre] V8s and fetch up to $80,000 for a two-door hardtop in exceptional order. Most in the market have 327 cubic inch engines and cost around $50,000. Getting started as a Chevrolet owner doesn’t have to be expensive with Impala four-door hardtops available in decent condition for under $30,000.
