Chase the sun for a good cause with the 2018 Shitbox Rally

The annual charity rally raised $1.67 million last year for the Cancer Council, and this year is shaping up to be a big one!

In our experience, some of the best times are to be had in absolute shitboxes of cars.

No need to baby them as they’re already pretty much worthless – just beat on them with your mates, without fear of breaking the car or the bank.

Sounds like fun?

Well you can do it for charity!

Welcome to the 2018 Shitbox Rally, taking place from May 19th to May 25th, travelling 3800kms from Brisbane to Darwin – all in the name of fun and a good cause.

The Shitbox Rally is one of the largest independent fundraisers for the Cancer Council in the country.

Last year they raised a whopping $1.67 million dollars, and with this year’s event kicking off in a few weeks, have already raised almost $1.5 million!

Entered cars must cost under $1000, and you’ll be embarking with a car full of buddies. Some cars may break, some may not make it. But no one gets left behind.

Organisers say “it’s not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable”.

Entrants will be camping under stars, passing through Australia’s beautiful countryside as well as stopping in small communities along the way.

The only price of entry is your $1000 car, some mates, and a raising a minimum of $4000 to donate.

The Shitbox Rally was founded in 2010 by James Freeman, who unfortunately lost both of his parents to cancer within 12 months. He states the rally “exudes a strong message: that big, almost impossible, battles can be overcome together, with the help of humour”.

The event kicks off in a matter of weeks, but it’s never too early to start preparing for next year’s!
