2021 Market Review - Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am/GTO 1964-1989

Asking prices for early Firebirds have followed the lead of physically similar Camaros, with some fixed roof cars offered at more than $80,000 and convertibles at a more appealing $65,000.

Firebirds built after 1970 gained weight and needed more power to maintain performance – in some cases becoming Trans Ams with the huge 455 cubic inch (7.4-litre) V8.

Cars like the black Trans Am immortalized in a well-known film are becoming more costly but most in our market aren’t good enough to justify $60,000. More viable and affordable are 1980s cars and especially the 5.7-litre GTA, which in excellent condition remains below $30,000.

Pontiac’s GTO launched the muscle car concept and early examples will justify prices in the $70-80,000 bracket. Later, bulkier models cost less.
