2021 Market Review - Holden Torana LC-LJ/LH-LX/SS/L34/A9X

If you don’t get the reason for including GTR and XU1 Toranas in our Guide, then look at the whole Muscle Car rationale; a light body with big engine sold to young buyers at minimal cost.

Sadly, we must then consider current GTR and especially XU1 prices and wonder what happened to that ‘minimal cost’ component. Not all Toranas cost $300,000 though and value still exists, even if you need to acquire a V8 to get it.

These Toranas still aren’t cheap of course, but a genuine SS 5.0-litre Hatch will cost half the price of an exceptional XU1. Mocked-up LH-LX V8 sedans cost $80-100,000.

Up higher, of course, there are A9X versions and their predecessor the LH L34 sedan. The A9X in race trim was faster than the Commodores which forced its retirement and two-door versions have cruised past $700,000.

Perhaps though you can still own an excellent A9X because sedans sell for around half the price of a Hatch.
