2021 Market Review - Ford Mustang V8/Fastback/GT390 1964-1973

If you want a 1960s Mustang in average condition, $35-40,000 is your likely outlay, plus a bit more in the near future to fix the faults that annoy you. To lock down a rare version though, especially one in seriously good condition, the cost will zoom close to $80,000.

Above that price will sit early Fastbacks, some with the desirable 4.7-litre ‘K Code’ engine, outstanding convertibles and the 1967-68 GT. These are available with a range of engines including the 6.4-litre ‘390’ cubic inch V8 immortalised by cinema car chase classic Bullitt.

Australia looks to be overwhelmed by Mustangs but they keep appearing and selling and even the basic versions are up by 20 percent on 2020 levels.
