If you wanted a new Buick back in the 1960s all it took was a call to your Holden dealer. Literally hundreds of fully optioned US cars came in this way, not to forget the ones that accompanied US migrants, diplomats and military personnel.

Numbers of available cars at present are a bit skimpy. Rivieras of all kinds in the vicinity of $50,000 should sell, but $100,000 for a 1970s boattail is extreme. 1960s Skylark and Electra hardtops cost $20,000 less than a Riviera, with convertibles and two-door Wildcats in the $40-50,000 bracket.

Australia doesn’t see a lot of GS Skylarks, but $80-100,000 asking prices do align with the money being asked by US vendors for similar cars.
