2021 Market Review - Mini 2002-2010

BMW bought the Mini name but none of the original car’s character or entrenched buyer base.

Demand for BMW Minis on the used market took time to develop and retained values were pretty dire, however popularity is improving. Cheapest are early Cooper sedans, with just 85kW from 1.6 litres and which in tidy condition cost $6000-8000. Open-top Cabriolets are slightly more.

Performance came to Miniland in 2003 via the supercharged Cooper S and later John Cooper Works turbo cars which had 155kW. The Cooper S generally costs less than $15,000 but JCWs are scarce and able to top $20,000.
