The world’s most popular sports car is still easy to find and 30 year-old cars are beginning to gain noticeably in value.

It is still possible to find an early Mazda MX-5 suited to daily use and pay $5000 for it but cars that have been neglected will never recoup the money you spend on repairs.

MX-5s built after 1998 progressively gained power (by 2006 they had 118kW) yet later models cost virtually the same as very early ones.

If you’re keen to get your MX-5 out on the track for some club-day fun then a Turbo, which sold here from 2002-03 with 150kW, will cost around $20,000.
