It's been an interesting ride for owners of some late-model Mustangs.

The decision to import brand new Mustangs has been a huge success for Ford Australia, selling over 1000 cars a month.

Not so good for people who shelled out plenty in years past to import and convert 2005-13 Mustangs, only to find their older cars undercut by brand new ones with a warranty.

Prices remain high for now but expect to see a lot of older ’Stangs being ditched at big discounts.

Not afflicted to the same degree but still offering value are specialty versions like the Roush and Super Snake.

Both generally sell for half their original cost and most in the market have travelled minimal kilometres.

If you need a load-carrier with some style, supercharged F-150 Lightning pickups in excellent order cost $55-60,000.

Mustang Cobra 1999-02 $31,275 [19]

Mustang GT 2005-09 $65,650 [11]

Shelby GT500/Saleen 2006-09 $88,490 [6]

Super Snake 2007-09 $161,765 [10]

F150 Lightning $57,325 [6]
