It is very hard to understand why people would spend big money on XR-XY Fords but allow XD and XE V8s to be sent for scrap.
These cars took Ford to the top of the sales charts and almost sent Holden broke.
Fortunately, a few dedicated owners do love and preserved their XD-XEs so the market now includes some excellent, unmodified cars.
In 1983, Ford made a big marketing blunder by decreeing there would never ever be another Falcon V8, leaving the ESP to epitomise the company's folly.
XD or XE ESPs with 4.9-litre engines are fairly easy to find and cost around $20,000, however the four-speed XE 351 is headed for $50,000.
XD-XE Falcon V8 $14,245 [14]
XD-XE Fairmont V8 $18,540 [7]
XD ESP 351 $18,210 [9]
XE ESP V8 23,900 [5]
XE ESP 5.8 $40,000 [1]
