These cars really were special and it doesn't have to cost a bomb to own one.

Turbocharged Falcons generate less aural excitement than a washing machine but their performance is just ridiculous for the money.

A decent BA Turbo will cost $10-12,000 or spend slightly more for the muted rumble of an XR8 with two extra cylinders and perhaps fewer maintenance issues.

Thats the 21st Century done, but what about the 20th?

Rolling back 17 years we find scarce yet affordable TE50 5.0-litre Falcons, plus the dearer but desirable 5.6-litre TS50.

If you cant afford or find one of the Tickford cars, a Series II or III AU XR8 will provide entertaining transport for around $8000.

With Falcon production ended watch for XR8 ute price surges.

Model Price Actual Sales
AU XR8 II/III $8625 [34]
BA XR8 Sedan/Ute $12,325 [50]
BF XR8 Sedan/Ute $14,955 [59]
BA/BF XR6 Turbo $11,390 [69]
TE50 5.0 $17,690 [4]
TS50 5.6 $24,570 [7]

Values from 2015-16. Concours cars will fetch a premium.
