Bumper field for Lloyds classic auction – gallery + video

Over 80 lots on offer

Lloyds’ classic car auction this Saturday is the biggest ever, with over 80 lots going under the hammer.

One of the main acts is the 1970 Holden Monaro GTS 350 coupe, with auto trans. This era Monaro has been pulling big numbers at sales. We’re told this is a matching number car, which was restored around a decade ago and still presents exceptionally well.

The auto means it’s not strictly a Bathurst car, but it looks the part and examples of this standard are very thin on the ground.

There is another Monaro of the same year on offer, with a 350 powerplant and auto. Though looking very presentable, it’s not at the same level as its stablemate.

Equally desirable and probably more valuable is a Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase I. This is said to be just one of three first-gen HOs fitted with an auto. Interest looks strong, with bidding already well over $120,000 at the time of writing. Everyone wants Phase IIIs, but this is the HO that started it all (albeit in manual guise) and is just as significant in historical terms.

There are a couple of gems for the Mopar fans, such as a 1972 Charger with 265 Hemi and auto, with a leather interior. This isn’t one of the super sports models (though it has some warpaint), however it should work out to be a good mid-priced classic for the right buyer.

One lot that’s going to be interesting to watch is the 1987 Ferrari Testarossa in white. Billed as your best way to relive your favourite episode of TV series Miami Vice, it’s already fetching bids over $90,000. Expect it to go a long way north of that.
