And yes, it has a Polarizer!
This weekend’s Lloyds classic car auction in Melbourne has a big variety of metal on offer, but we couldn’t go past this offering without mentioning it: a 1987 HDT VL Commodore Calais Sport in what appears to be be very good condition.
Built in February 1987, it came fitted with the infamous Energy Polarizer. The controversial gadget proved to be harmless and in fact did nothing, other than providing one of the final cracks between co-creator Peter Brock and the management at GMH.
Polarizer aside, HDT knew a thing or two about sorting cars and this luxo Calais with the 5.0lt V8 should be a nice thing to drive. It appears very original, right down to the period ‘Traveller’ carphone on the centre console.
It’s an auto, said to be running the big 85lt fuel tank and upgraded suspension.
The online auction starts at 1.00pm (eastern daylight saving time) this Saturday and includes several Australian collectible cars, plus Japanese, European and American.
